Dirt Road Driving

Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.

It was quiet the terrain and perfect. I think the first day for anyone driving is a challenge. Fear takes the front seat in this room!

I was just learing to get my driver’s permit and my cousin Johnny helped me out. He had an old Chevy fifty something pick-up truck with a “granny gear” in it. That granny gear was perfect for me. You didnt have to worry about how fast you let out on the clutch, because it just rolled on smooth, and I liked that.

There was a home development community being built and the roads were not yet put in place except for heavy equipment vehicles like dirt movers and graders pathways. It was bumpy.

I learned to turn, steer and shift gears on that wide opened dusty frontier in that old truck with no power steering or power brakes proabably. It was the day I over came a fear of driving.

Thanks cousin for the driving lesson and a great memory. R.I.P…..
